Reflections on love

What is love? Love is not just a feeling or an emotion, it's much more than that - Love is an action word. I once heard this quote that if you love someone, you have to let him/her go. Love is not about possessing someone, you can love someone from afar.  Love requires sacrifice and to love someone is a choice. Feelings and affection for someone can fade in time, but true love doesn't go away that easily. If love is just based on what we feel in our heart, than it can be a dangerous and deceitful thing. If your love is only based on an emotional feeling, than it means that if one day you feel like you love him, you will do anything for him, but if the next day you feel like you don't love him, you will just walk out on him, because the feeling of love is no longer there. But love is about choosing to stay put and work out all the wrongs to make it right, no matter how hard the circumstance. The Bible tells us that "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9)

Let's look into the Bible for it's definition of love; "Love is patient, love is kind, and it is not jealous; love does not brag and it is not arrogant, does not act unbecoming; it does not seek its own, it is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness; but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hope all things, endure all things….. But now abide faith, hope, love these three; but the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8,13)

True love was demonstrated to us by Christ, "But God demonstrated His own love towards us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) "Greater love has no one than this, that he lays down his life for his friends. (John 15:13), "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16) Love is always about sacrifice, God gave and gave and gave. That is just His nature, "The one who does not know love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:8)

What motivates you to do the things you do?  Is it out of obligation? Out of love? Out of fear? The bible teaches us that "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives our fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not perfect in love." (1 John 4:18).

Fear however has two types… Irrational fears such as fears of cockroaches and a reverent healthy fear of the Lord, which leads to life, " The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death." (Proverbs 14:27)

The fear of God, actually drives us towards him, not away from Him. God has shown us so much of His love that, our only response to Him is to love Him and worship Him by following and obeying him. We fear him because, He is God Almighty, Just and Holy and we are mere dust and sinners, damn to hell. God can smite us anytime if our sins arouses Him to anger, but He chooses to withhold His judgement from us because of grace.  "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both the soul and body in hell."  (Matthew 10:28), "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the father, full of grace and truth". (John 1:14) "For if, but the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life, through one man, Jesus Christ! "(Romans 5:17), "He made him who knew no sin, to be sin on our behalf, that we might be the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21) That's grace and that's true love!

Love can be demonstrated in a few practical ways - by words of encouragement, by praying, by works of kindness… "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountain, but do not have love, I am nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:1-2). Therefore, we ought to "Do everything in love" (1 Corinthians 16:4), "We love because he first loved us" (John 4:19). "A new command I give you; Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." (John 13:34-35)

Love - because God first loved us and it is a demonstration to the world that we are indeed His disciples! Fear the Lord, because it is life!

Good Friday/Easter Reflection

God made man - man. Man made god - idol.  When God created human it is in the natural. But when man tries to create God who is more supreme than Him, this becomes pride. Idolatry therefore equals pride, as it takes the focus off the Creator to the creation. The creation becomes the object of our worship and when that happens, our sight on our Creator is lost. We then walk away from Him leading our own selfish lifestyle. Idolatry and pride are both sin and require death.

The Bible says that "The wages of sin is death, but the free gift is eternal life through Jesus Christ" (Romans 6:23).  Remember that even though your gift is free, it didn't come cheap! Jesus paid for it with His own blood!

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16)

Are we living in pride? Do we have idols that take the place where God should be. What do we live for? What are our priorities? Have we lost our sight on God and start to pursue other stuff?

As we approach Easter and Good Friday this weekend, let us bring our focus back to our Creator who loved us so much that He will hang on the cross for our sins. "He made him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf that we may become the righteousness of God."  (2 Cor 5:21).

May we all take this time to reflect on our lives and if we find ourselves guilty of any of the above mentioned, may we all repent before the Lord. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:19).

Following the shepherd and discerning His voice

God has called us sheep in the Bible (Isaiah 53:6) and when God uses that to describe us, it is not a compliment. Sheep are by nature, dumb and clueless animals. There are many references in the Bible that uses "sheep" to describe us... (Ezekiel 34:6 -31, Matt 9:36, Mark 6:34). And Jesus calls Himself our Good Shepherd. (John 10: 1-18)

Now sheep being naturally dumb, tends to bump around like a headless chicken if we do not have a guide to lead us. But Jesus calls Himself our Good Shepherd, we are the sheep of His pasture and those belonging to Him can recognise His voice (John 10:26 - 29), He is the way the truth and the life.  (John 14:6)

The only way we can recognise His voice is unless we spend time with Him on a regular basis, listening and talking to Him. It all boils down to our relationship with the Lord and how closely we desire to walk with Him. The more time we spend with Him, the easier it will be for us to identify and recognise His voice and discern between Him and the Deceiver!

We all know about the famous story about the Pipe Piper of Hamelin… He blew his pipe and all the mice in town followed the music. The Pipe Piper led them to the river where the mice just followed blindly and subsequently one by one landed into the river and they all drowned. The Pipe Piper returned to the town Mayor to collect his reward,  but because the Mayor didn't honour his promise, the Pipe Piper blew a different tune and it attracted all the children after him, leading them into somewhere, where they eventually got lost forever, except for one lame boy who got left behind because he was not able to catch up with the rest.

Like the children and the mice in the story, if we just follow the crowd blindly because everyone is heading for that direction, we would all be in trouble. We need to keep our eyes focussed on our Shepherd and stay close to the flock and we are reminded always to be aware of wolves in sheep's clothing (false prophets - Matt 7:15, Matt 24:4-5,24.) In the preceding verse of Matthew 7:15, verse 13-14 says, "Enter by the narrow gate, for the gate is wide, and the way is broad, that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter by it. For the gate is small, and the way is narrow that leads to life, and few are those who find it."

We need to be careful where we are heading and who we are listening to… Are we following the voices of the world or are we following the voice of our shepherd? God speaks to us in a still small voice, and because of that, we need to learn to be silent and still before Him in order that we are able to discern and listen carefully to what He is saying.

Are we allowing the distractions and the temptations of the world to cloud and block His still small voice? Remember Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit warned the leaders in Acts 20:28-30 saying, "Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. I know that after my departure, savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things to draw away the disciples after them." (In current context, be aware of Prosperity Gospel and Hyper-grace messages.)

What is God speaking to you about right now? What is your response? May we always be in constant prayer and communion with the Lord. Don't follow the crowd blindly, listen to the voice of our Shepherd! Remember the warnings about the narrow and the wide gate and about the false prophets! Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. (John 8:32)

Bodily function - spiritual implications

The Bible tells us that we are made in God's image (Genesis 9:6) and that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for the good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). We are also taught that in Him, we live and move and have our being, for we are His offspring. (Acts 17:28)

Having read the above Scriptures, what is the spiritual implication on us? In order to answer that, let us take a look at our physical body and study it in parallel to the scriptures. But before that, note that there is one commonality in all the above 3 verses… They all point us to the fact that life is meaningless without God - our source of life!!!

We were all created in His image for His purpose… 

Now let us examine our physical body… 

1) We are given a heart - 

God made us in His own image to fellowship with Him and to have communion with Him. Because God created us, we all have a natural void in our heart that can only be filled and satisfied by the One who created it. We are to open it and allow Him to come in to fill us, to have fellowship with Him, to worship Him, to love Him… 

2) We are given eyes - 

We are given eyes to see the things which God have created, we all have spiritual eyes to see the works of God in our lives. Open up your eyes to see what God is doing!

3) We are given a nose

We have nose to breathe oxygen to keep us alive! Without it, we cannot survive.  If our nose are blocked, we cannot breathe properly. God gave us life to enjoy the things we have, appreciate them before it is taken away from you!

4) We are given mouths -

We have a mouth…. What for? If we cannot see, or feel, or smell, we have mouth to use to open and ask God for it. Ask and it shall be given, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you. (Matthew 7:7) We use our mouth to sing His praise and declare God's goodness, to speak blessings on one other. 

5) We are given ears - 

We all have ears. After we have opened our mouths to ask for something, open our ears to hear what He has to say to us… Listen to the Spirit's prompting!

6) We are given legs and hands - 

What do we do after listening to God's voice? We need to act on it. Use our legs to walk in them, and use our hands to do what needs to be done.

7) We are given brains - 

Finally, last but not least, we all are given brains. God did not make us into mindless robots. We are given brains to process, think, study and than finally choose and decide what we want to do with all we have been given. 

We all have a purpose and it begins and ends with Christ!

Reflection: Jesus as our example

We often use Jesus as our example to pave the way for our thoughts and actions. We look to Him as our High Priest for grace and mercy in times of needs. (Hebrews 4:15-16) But how often do we find ourselves saying this, "But Jesus is God, Almighty. He has all the power available to Him." And therefore, we think it is difficult to use Jesus as a benchmark for everything that we measure ourselves against, as He is God and also a perfect man. At least, for myself, I often say that.

However, there is one fact, that we tend to forget. Although Jesus was God, Jesus Christ was also man. The title "Son of God" points and directs us to Jesus' deity yet there is another title "Son of Man" which points and remind us of Jesus' human status.

The Bible tells us this, "Have this attitude in yourself, which was also in Christ Jesus. who although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found the appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross." (Philippians 2:5-8)

Just as Jesus was fully man, having basic needs such hunger and rest (Jesus was hungry after fasting 40 days in wilderness), He drew His strength from God the Father. Therefore, it is possible tor us to follow the footsteps of Jesus, as we remember His human suffering while He was on earth! Jesus came to earth to show us God but lived as man as we are (but without sin). As Jesus drew His strength from the Father, so we draw our strength from Jesus who is the one who redeems us from sin and the one who draws us back to reconciliation to the Father! Because Jesus overcame, we can overcome!

Love is a choice!

Reflecting upon an incident that took place several years ago... And as I thought about it, there's one thing that is clear. Since God created the world, He knows the past, the present and the future. He sometimes preamps His children about what it is to come and it is up to them to choose to decide their attitude.

Some how it always amazes me when I reflect on the incident on Judah's betrayal of Jesus. Jesus knew everything from the start and yet He still... chose to love Judah and did not harbour any negative thoughts about him... Throughout, Jesus's heart towards Judah is one of kindness, forgiveness and mercy. This brought me to an incident which has personally took place in my life.

God asked me this question once (many years ago) regarding a friend whom I love dearly. He asked" "Would you still love him and regard him as friend, if one day he did something that would hurt you?" It was a honest and hard question, I eventually replied "Yes" not fully understanding what it meant.

The "hurt" that my friend caused me, eventually happened many years after the Lord has asked me that question. When I was dealing with the hurt, God reminded me about the question He asked me years ago..... I honestly struggled with it. I realised and learnt from Jesus that, love is a choice. Knowing that you are going to be hurt and still choose to love and forgive him is a deliberate choice.

Dealing with the pain, God asked. "Are you willing to give up that pain to Me and still love your friend?"

I had to make a choice - to be angry with my friend whom I love, or trust God to graciously help me deal with the hurt and than forgive and love him the way Jesus has dealt with Judah!

It is a hard choice, but since I treasure the friendship so much, I had to put aside the hurt if I really wanted to keep him.. Honestly, it still hurts every now and than when I think of my friend, but I have chosen to think of the positive things that has happened. The longer I harbour and think of all the negative things that has happened, the further I will cause the friendship to drift.

Love and hate is a choice. Choose wisely!

Reflections on marriage

If a Christian knowingly marries a pre-believer is against the Bible but still goes with it and eventually having the spouse turn to Christ, is nothing more than the grace of God at work. That is NOT an excuse to say it is ok, when the Bible clearly says NO!

"For if we go on sinning wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain terrifying expectation of judgement, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries (Hebrew 10:26-27)

In regards to marriage, the Bible clearly has this to say: "Do not be yoked together with unbeliever for what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common which an unbeliever? (2 Corinthians 6:14-15)

At this junction, some may point to a verse in Bible that says '"Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that if any of them do not believe in the word; they may be own over without words by the behaviour of their wives" (1 Peter 3:1) and take it has an excuse to say - look the Bible has given us an example that there are wives who are married to pre-believer..

Nope! I personally feel and believe that this passage assumes that both parties were pre-believers before marriage and subsequently the wife came to the Lord before her husband does.

God is clear in His words, our duty is to obey it and accept it as it is, not argue about it and make excuses to justify our mistakes!

Valentine's Day Poem

Someone special, someone dear
Someone beloved who is always near
Taking your hands and wiping your tears
Assuring you that there's nothing to fear

Chocolates and candies are not His style
Coz He has something to give that's more worthwhile
He give you love, He give you life
He gives you hope in Jesus Christ

Do not worry about being alone
Or no one speical to call your own
The love of God is more than enough
To satisfy your longing soul

When days seems hopeless and the nights seem long
The Lord Himeself is near you, His grace helps you to move on
His death on the cross demonstrates His ultimate love so divine
God opens His arms to invite you today; He calls you to be His valentine

He is saying to you right now, My child, I love you so much
That I'm willing to give My all to you
My love for you knows no reasons, limits or conditions
And My words and promises forever will stand true

All you have to do is to believe and receive
This gift of love that is readily available for you
I'm waiting for you to be my Valentine
Are you willing today, to be mine?

A short study on Demon Possessed vs Demon Influenced

Question – Can a Christian be demon possessed?

My suggestion is that a Christian can be demon influenced but not demon possessed. We cannot be demon possessed because we belong to Christ not Satan. Noticed the difference is in the word influenced and possessed.   

The idea of being demon possessed is that Satan has power and full reign and control over one’s life. Satan can only have full reign over those who belong to him (those who have not given their lives to Jesus Christ). Being demon possessed is the same as being under the lordship/ownership of Satan.  A true Christian belonging to Jesus cannot be possessed by Satan but we certain can be under demonic influenced and become demonise as a result of that.  When a Christian is under the influence of Satan it is akin to a puppet being manipulated by its puppeteer, they are being controlled by the evil spirit but it doesn’t mean that they have been “possessed” by it.

A Christian can be demonised (to a certain level) because of sin or because of anger/bitterness/forgiveness or involvement in the occult practice which gives room and access to the devil into your life. A demonised Christian is not able to mouth the words “Jesus is Lord”. “No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” (2 Corinthians 12:3), it would therefore reveal that we are controlled by Satan and his demon and not by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore it can be concluded, that a person cannot be influenced/possessed by the devil unless one allows them access and permission to do so. Yet because if a person doesn’t belong to Jesus, Satan has every right and access into their lives because they are still carrying the “sinful nature” in them and have not appropriated the cleansing and the forgiveness of ones sins through their confession and acceptance of the work of Jesus on the cross and have not received the seal of the Holy Spirit. In a case of a Christian it can only occur to the extent of how much they allow themselves to be influenced.

 “Affliction”, “oppression”, “bondage” and “stronghold’ are words to describe demonization to a lesser extent. This is much more common and it implies vary degrees of demonic influence in certain areas in the person’s life. This is can be likened to a military invasion of a city – even while the friendly forces occupy and control the city, isolated areas can remain under enemy denomination.

The way out -

The only way out is through renunciation and confession of sin of the person under influence, by physically casting it out in the name of Jesus and also through the prayers and worship of the saints. Since the demon cannot stand in the presence of the Lord, they would have to flee during worship when the Lord’s spirit is present.

Trusting in Your word, knowing they are true

Every fear, every tear, every dream, every song that I sing
Lord I'm learning to trust You and let go of everything
You promised to deliver, You promised to heal
You promised to keep Your covenant, and You always will

Lord You are sovereign and above all
You pick me up every time I fall
Not a single tear is wasted, nor a single cry unheard
You understand my sorrow and You feel my hurt

On my knees Lord, have I prayed

I choose to rejoice and be grateful for all that I have

Letting go, because I know
Lord, You're in control
Letting go of everything I hold
I shall not be afraid
Of the things that lie ahead
For You have seen tomorrow
Letting go of my fears
Trusting that You're always near
You'll hold me close every step of the way
And You'll never let me go astray
For the things in the past that has bound me
I've chosen to surrender all

It's a matter of faith

What is faith? Faith as defined in the bible in Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of the

things hope for, the conviction of things not seen”…  The entire 11^th chapter of Hebrew up till chapter 12 and verse 3 gives us very detailed examples of faith in action.

 Faith in Action

 Hebrews 11

1 Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for.

3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

 4 By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.

5 By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.”[a] For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith.

8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she[b] considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

 13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[c] 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death.

20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. 21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions concerning the burial of his bones.

 23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.

25 He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.

27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. 29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.

30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days.

31 By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient.[d]

32 And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. 35 Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. 36 Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were put to death by stoning;[e] they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— 38 the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.

39 These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised,

40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

Chapter 12

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

 So than, where does faith comes from? “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ” Romans 10:17

If we take a closer look at all above verses we have just read, faith is a by-product of consistently walking closely with God. It will be tested and tested but it can only get stronger and stronger after each test. Most importantly, it is the object in which we place our trust in... We serve a BIG God, he is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).

Faith can be increased; it has to take a certain discipline in us to be faithful in reading our word. Faith also has to be accompanied with works.

Faith and Deeds

James 2: 14-26

14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.”

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. 19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless[a]? 21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,”[b] and he was called God’s friend. 24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

Faith is only possible until you know that the object you put your faith in is reliable, therefore you will realise throughout this blog I keep on emphasizing on the greatness of our God. Like I’ve mentioned earlier too, faith is a by-product of consistently walking closely with God. It will be tested and tested but it can only get stronger and stronger after each test.  A faith that cannot be tested is not really faith. We might fail, but our God is faithful and He will not fail us no matter how many times we fall or fail or don’t have faith.

At the end of the day, it is not the size of our faith that matters but the object in which we place our faith in. The bible tells us that if we have the faith as small as a mustard seed, we can tell the mountains to move from here to there and it will be done. Nothing is impossible for us. (Matt 17:20b - 21a)  We serve a BIG God, he is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20).

Our God is big. Our God is powerful. Our God is faithful. Our God is GOOD!!!!

You were exactly how I created you to be, Even before you were born." Then I stared at God and slowly began to cry "But Father, I said How could this possibly be, How could you love an awful looking sinner like me?" God smiled and took my hands, then wiped my tears and said "Child I made you and I love you And you mean the world to Me And in my eyes, you're the most beautiful person as far as I can see, So it doesn't really matter what you do or where in life you'll eventually go You are My precious Child and nothing else matters most You will always be my beloved no matter what others may say Don't be afraid of who you are, take My hands, My precious child, and I will lead the way." So I looked back into the mirror once more Pondering upon the words He said Then I started to tell myself "I'm not too bad after all." I therefore started looking into my heart Suddenly I realized and saw That a well that was once dried up within me Has now become a waterfall The love of God has came down And touched my broken heart And because of Christ love for me I've finally learned to accept my true identity Written by Michelle Yee

Reflections on God's Faithfulness

http://www.poemsbymichelleyee.wordpress.com We often find ourselves singing during worship or maybe during our prayers, “God, please do not let me go…” But if we think hard enough, do we realize that God doesn’t have the intention of letting go of us? If fact the Bible says “The Lord will never leave us nor forsake us.” Heb 13:6. Having said this, the reality is that, instead of God letting go of us, we are the ones who are letting go of Him. We often have heard of people saying, "Let go and let God”, this phrase simply means we are to let go of ourselves and all of our problems, releasing them to God, letting Him do what He has to do, and we are to trust Him. But the fact is that most of us are letting go of God rather then ourselves. Perhaps next you might wonder, how do we let go of God? Simple, when we go astray, when we disobey God and when we do not trust Him. By letting go of God, you’re basically saying, “God, I’m going to ignore You to do my own things. I’m not holding Your hands and following You.” That is what letting go means – to be willing to open your hands and release what you are holding on to and literally giving it away freely. Maybe it’s true that we do not let go of God intentionally, but let’s face the fact. We all, at one point in time of our lives have done that before. Let’s be honest with ourselves. Have there been times we have become impatient with God that we have decided for ourselves to do what we please instead of faithfully waiting upon Him? It’s easy to praise and trust God in the good times, but what about the bad times? Will we be found equally faithfully too? Especially during times, when God seems silent and apparently so far away from us, when we felt that God is ignoring our cries. It is in these desperate times, that we should cling on to God even more. It is hard to go through these times, but we all have to experience them, it’s perhaps the best way if not the only way, our faith is being tested, our true character shows. These may be tough times, but definitely moments we have to learn to treasure as there are valuable lessons we can learn from. Sometimes when God is silent, it does not always mean He is ignoring us. It could be test of our faith, it could a time when God is teaching you patience, it could be time of self-reflection or simply just waiting upon Him. While God promises that He will never leave us nor forsake us, He never said that we will always feel His presence. Now, this is something we must learn to know the difference and accept it. God is always looking down upon us, taking care of us and loving us, whether a not we know or feel it. The bible encourages us with these three verses - Lamentation 3:22-23 - “The Lord’s lovingkindness indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning, great is thy faithfulness.” And 2 Tim 2:23 - “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself,” Hebrews 13:8 - "Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever." While, most of us do not like to go through this kind of tough moments, sometimes it can only be through these trying times, that we truly learn to recognize that without God, we are nothing. Sometimes, God must bring us to a place and break us so much that we must have to come to a point of our recognition for God’s grace and mercy. Sometimes, that is God’s way of drawing us back to Him. If we truly understand God’s faithfulness and love towards us, we are then now willing to learn to trust Him and wait upon Him even through tough times? May we be found faithful, not only in the good times, but even more when in the bad. Psalms 23 The Lord is my Shepard, I shall not be in want He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me besides the quiet waters He restores my soul, He leads me in the path of righteousness for His namesake Even though I wake through the valley of shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemy, You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life.
